OUR STORY
My name is Julie Lewis and I grew up with seasonal and pet allergies as did my husband Adam. We didn’t think having an indoor pet would ever be reality for us, especially after having children. We heard about his new breed of dogs, the Goldendoodle, but weren’t sure if the rumors of them being hypoallergenic and shed-free were true. It wasn’t until one of my good friends got her doodle that I realized I didn’t have allergy issues with this breed. When she approached me about helping her breed, I quickly agreed. Who wouldn’t want to be around the cutest, friendliest and most intelligent puppies around? It wasn’t until she retired her female that I decided to have a go on my own, which started Tuscaloosa Doodles.
We do not have a “state of the art” facility because we raise all puppies in the comfort of our own home. Our goal is to provide healthy, clean and cute puppies and we feel this is the best way to accomplish that. We clean the puppy play area several times a day to aid mama as she trains her litter to clean themselves and their den. Raising a litter inside creates a lot of work and I am thankful to have such a supportive husband and children to help me.
All puppies are born blind and deaf so week 3 is a big week for them (they open their eyes and begin to walk). This is when we begin our potty training process with them. They won’t be fully potty trained by adoption day, but they will have a good grasp on the concept. Also, at this 3 week stage, the puppies are becoming accustomed to the sounds of our home. All of our puppies are being snuggled, held, and flipped over on their backs from a very early age. Our dams are very attentive and research has shown the more nudging and licking from the mama improves their cognitive behavior. The extra affection from our family paired with their mother’s attentiveness is a breeding ground for laid back, happy, well-adjusted, loving dogs. Their well-rounded temperament will be a a direct reflection of the time and attention our home pours into every puppy.
Before each puppy heads to their forever home, we take them to our licensed vet where the pups receive a wellness check, deworming (if necessary) and all their appropriate vaccinations. We understand that bringing a new puppy into your home is a big decision, which is why we offer a one-year genetic health guarantee with every puppy adoption. We do not require our customers to have their dogs on any supplements or vitamins to honor the guarantee*. We are confident that we have done our part to aid in their health by testing the parents before breeding and in the handling of the puppies. Tuscaloosa Doodles will send home with your puppy a play toy covered in the litter’s scent along with mama. You will also receive a small bag of our recommended dog food and a folder with their vet records and other helpful information to get your started.
SIZING & PRICING
Our goal at Tuscaloosa Doodles is to provide you with healthy Micro Mini and Mini Goldendoodles that are a good balance of the friendly Golden Retriever and the low shedding, intelligent Poodle. We want to point out that Goldendoodles are not AKC registered due to their mixed breeding, which allows breeders to determine their own size classifications. Since breeders can have different names for different sizes, we laid out our sizes for you. At the moment we only offer Micro Mini Goldendoodles (under 25lbs) and Mini Goldendoodles (26-45lbs). Our Micro Mini Goldendoodles fall under 20 pounds, but you will not be able to find one under 10lbs here.
Why are Micro Mini’s priced differently?
Breeding our Micro Mini Golden Doodles require higher adoption fees due to smaller litters based on the size of the dog. Breeding Micro Mini Doodle to Micro Mini Doodle results in fewer puppies per litter. Not only are the litters smaller, but we raise all litters inside our own home to ensure each puppy receives proper care and attention they need. This meticulous process requires extra effort and resources. Our goal isn’t to produce a super small dog, it is to cultivate the calmest, friendliest, and most well rounded Goldendoodles possible which we believe comes from the Golden Retriever. If you are seeking to complete your family with a Micro Mini Goldendoodle, we encourage you to explore our available puppies and upcoming litters. Micro Mini Goldendoodles are the perfect size for any home. If you are ready to Embark on this adventure with your own Micro Mini Goldendoodle, search here.
